At 1346 meters above the sea level, Štrbské pleso is the highest located village in the High Tatras and belongs to one of the top tourist destinations in the region. It is very popular with tourists who fall in love with the enchanting atmosphere of the pristine mountain lake of glacial origin surrounded by breath-taking peaks. Tourism started here more than 140 years ago – thanks to the great climate and location, Štrbské Pleso became a well-known centre for people suffering from respiratory problems. Apart from leisurely strolls around the lake, the resort is an ideal starting point for many hikes and climbs and offers 9 km of easy to medium difficult ski tracks, as well as 8 professional groomed cross-country skiing tracks.
